Link PAN with Aadhaar extended by 6 months till September 30

The government on Sunday 31st march extended the deadline for linking PAN with biometric ID Aadhaar till September 30, as per the official statement.

However, The Aadhaar card will remain mandatory for filing ITRs(income tax returns), following the Supreme Court order.

Again government extended the deadline sixth time for individuals link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar card. In the last year June 2018 the government had said that PAN has to be linked with the biometric ID by 31 March.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said there were reports that those PANs which are not linked with Aadhaar number by 31st March may be invalidated, following which the matter was considered by the government and the date extended till 30th September 2019.

It is also made clear that w.e.f. 1st April 2019, it is mandatory to quote and link Aadhaar card number while filing the return of income,” it added.

What is Aadhaar Card

A 12-digit random card number that was issued by the UIDAI(Unique Identification Authority of India) to the residents of India after satisfying the verification process laid down by the Authority. In the Aadhaar Following information are like Name, DOB(Date of Birth), Age, gender, address, mobile number and email and the 12-digit Unique number.

Till last year in September the 41 crore PANs issued, over 21 crore were linked to Aadhaar card.

The earlier deadlines for linking PAN with Aadhaar card were July 31st, August 31st and December 31st, 2017, March 31st, 2018, June 30th, 2018, and March 31st, 2019.
